Preselection
occurs when you nominate Yell as your preferred telecommunications provider for
the supply of a group of specific calls. With preselection, all national long
distance, fixed line to mobile, and international calls will be carried by the
preselected carrier (in this case Yell) if no other carrier’s override
code is used.
Preselection allows you to select different
service providers for some types of phone calls. You may select a service provider
for their local calls and service rental, and another service provider for their
long distance calls.
How does PreSelection work?
All calls are carried around the national
network with carrier codes at the front. Telstra adds an additional number if
the call made was via preselection. Hence all carriers are aware of which calls
were made using an override code and which were made via PreSelection.
Once your carrier
determines through which carrier the call is to be placed, the call is delivered
to the appropriate carrier’s switch. The preselected carrier then delivers
the call using either its own network or another carriers' network.
What equipment do I need to use the Service?
There are no equipment requirements or
hardware upgrades when connecting to the service. You keep your existing equipment,
and there is no need for you to change your number.
Can I start dialling right now?
No, you must first request to have your
number(s) preselected to Yell prior to using the service. Once your phone numbers
have been entered in our system they will be setup for Override so you can start
making calls immediately.
If you preselect to Yell, it may take
up to 14 working days after we have received your signed application form for
you to be preselected.
What type of calls can I make with the Service?
With the PreSelection Service the following
types of calls can be made: National Long Distance calls; Fixed Line to Mobile
calls; and International calls.
What happens to my other calls?
The service does
not allow calls to be made other than those listed above. Examples of calls which
can’t be made
with the PreSelection Service include Emergency calls (000), Directory Assistance
(013, 1245) or Premium Services (1900).
This means that when you make a call
to these services, your call will be carried by your current local service provider
and charged at their agreed rates.
Is there a contract term associated with this
Service?
No
Is there an establishment fee for the Service?
There are no establishment fees for signing
with the PreSelection Service.
Can I still use the Service if I have a contract
with another service provider?
In most cases, no as many service providers
will not allow you to use another service provider for your long distance calls.
You will need to confirm with your current service provider whether preselecting
to Yell for your long distance calls affects any existing contracts you may currently
have in place.
Why has another service provider charged me for
my calls?
Another service provider may charge you
for calls if you have used another override code when making calls.
